CT: Computed Tomography (16 slice and 64 slice)

Computed Tomography is a scan of x-rays that produces detailed images of organs, bones, soft tissues and blood vessels. During the process, the CT rotates around your body taking images (slices) of the body. Small amounts of radiation are used. You will need an order from your physician for any CT exam.

Digital Radiography

Digital Radiography is a digital x-ray image that is available to the physicians on the computer.

Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy captures "live" moving images of moving body structures, similar to an x-ray video camera.

Interventional Radiology

The Interventional Radiology process is when image guidance is used during minimally invasive procedures. Interventional Radiology is used for both diagnostic and treatment purposes.

PET/CT: Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography

Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography is an imaging procedure where a radioactive nuclide is injected in the patient, then the patient is scanned to reveal growth abnormalities.

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine is different from x-ray, ultrasound, and other diagnostic images in that it helps find disease in the body by viewing images that show structural change. Patients are given a radioactive material through injection, swallowing, or inhalation then an image is taken of the organ, bone or tissue in question.

Women's Imaging Center

The Women’s Imaging Center has been awarded the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence* Award in 2007, 2008 and 2009. This designation recognizes the Women’s Imaging Center’s dedication to improving women’s health by participating in rigorous quality assurance programs. We believe in preventive screenings for all men and women. Women’s Imaging Center provides the following imaging services:

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment?

Most imaging exams do require an appointment. The exceptions to this are "routine x-ray" exams such as a chest x-ray, extremity x-ray. For all scheduling questions or exam related questions, please call the imaging department at (303) 651-5145.

What if I want an x-ray exam, but do not have a physician?

An order from a Colorado licensed independent practitioner (LIP) is required for all imaging tests. To help you find a physician, please visit Find a Physician.

Do I check in at registration every time I come for an imaging test?

Each time you come in for testing your insurance company sees it as an individual visit which requires you to check in at registration. Registration will verify a new account number, insurance, and consent for treatment. Some of the imaging tests require “pre-authorization” from your insurance company prior to the test being done.

Where is registration and how do I get there?

When you come to Longmont United Hospital, please utilize the FREE valet parking that we offer to all of our patients and visitors. Simply drive to the main entrance and our friendly parking attendants will keep your car safe until you are ready to leave. Our valet service operates Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM. You may also park by the Outpatient Services door which is the closest entrance to registration and the Diagnostic Imaging Department.

Do I have to fast for my imaging procedure? May I take my medications before my imaging procedure?

Some imaging tests have very specific preparations that you must follow prior to your exam. At the time of scheduling your procedure, you will be informed of these preparations. If you would like, we can provide, or fax, you with a printed copy of the preparation information required.

Can I get a copy of my results?

You have a right to get a copy of your images and results. You will need to fill out an Authorization to Release Protected Health Information and have identification available to give the Imaging file room or Medical Records Department. This gives us legal permission to give you a copy of your images and results. View HIPAA Statement

When will my physician have my results?

The results from your imaging tests will be available to your physician in about three to five days, depending on the exam. The results are faxed directly to your physician as soon as the radiologist finalizes the interpretation.

How do I pay for it?

Most insurance companies will cover the majority of the cost of your imaging procedure. If a co-payment is required by your insurance company, you will be notified of the amount at the time of pre-registration or registration.
