Longmont United Hospital Foundation
Healthcare Career Scholarships
The Longmont United Hospital Foundation offers a merit-based scholarship/loan program to encourage students to pursue educational opportunities for careers in the healthcare field. As of June 2006, 160 Scholarships have been awarded to 102 recipients totaling $272,000.
There is no set maximum on the amount of scholarship funds that could be potentially awarded to each applicant. Awards are given for tuition assistance only. No funds will be given for room and board or books.
Who is selected?
The Foundation's goal is to award applicants who will choose to pursue a career with Longmont United Hospital. Upon completion of their education, students who are offered employment at Longmont United Hospital will have their scholarship/loan forgiven upon the completion of a service requirement (typically, two years). The Foundation does not in any way guarantee employment at Longmont United Hospital to scholarship/loan recipients.
Award decisions will be made solely at the discretion of the Foundation's scholarship committee, and are final. Students who are awarded scholarship/loans will be required to sign a scholarship/loan agreement setting forth their repayment obligations.
Eligibility
An applicant must be pursuing a healthcare career in a profession involving direct patient care within the hospital setting. Some examples of these professions include: nursing, pharmacy, surgical technology, radiology technology, laboratory technology, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.
To be eligible an applicant must be accepted or enrolled in the healthcare school or program in your field of study before your application will be considered. Applicants simply "majoring" in a healthcare field at an institution do not necessarily qualify for scholarship/loan assistance. Scholarship funds will not be awarded for any Pre-requisite course work.
Applicants should inquire with the Foundation staff before they complete the application if they are unsure if requirements for eligibility are satisfied.
Note: Longmont United Hospital employees should check with Human Resources about tuition reimbursement prior to completing this application. If eligible, you should pursue this source of support first to determine whether you will need Foundation assistance as well.
When to apply?
Scholarship applications are available the first week in January and must be completed and returned to the Foundation no later than the last business day in March.
